Ozone is an allotrope of oxygen.It break downs oxygen into two atoms of oxygen by molecule. By doing this it releases nascent oxygen which is very effective in oxidizing the organic materials and killing bacteria present on it.
The ozone containing air or oxygen mixture produced by ozone generator can be introduced to water by injecting or diffusing it into mixing chamber. A dosage of 0.2 to 0.3 p.p.m of ozone is sufficient to kill all voliform bacteria in clean water if its vfree of all oxidable materials.
It is more powerful method of disinfection for bacteria and viruses than chlorine. Its disinfecting action is wide range of temperature and pH. Ozone oxidizes organic impurities such as alkyl benzene sulphonate (ABS).
